The 1st October is our International Older People’s day. The available data from Age UK tells us that over 1 million older people in Britain say that they are either always or often feel lonely. While only 46% of over 65’s in the United Kingdom say that they spend time with friends or family either most or any day at all. Age UK also tells us that around 49% (so nearly half) of all over 75 year olds feel lonely. The health toll of this issue is also documented, with the available data informing us that constant loneliness can be as harmful to a person’s health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
