Registering for a DBS with Kare Plus Redbridge

Before you begin your career in care, you must pass a DBS or Disclosure and Barring Service check. This was previously referred to as a CRB or Criminal Records Bureau check, however it changed to a DBS check in 2012.  This service ensures that us as employers are recruiting safely and therefore prevent unsuitable individuals from working with vulnerable groups of people.

All care positions will require you to pass this check before starting the role. There are 3 tiers of DBS check available:

A basic DBS is the lowest level of disclosure and this checks the police national computer for criminal convictions. A standard DBS covers those working in occupations that don’t require working with children or vulnerable adults. Working for Kare Plus Redbridge you would need an enhanced DBS check, which is required for those who are responsible for caring for children or vulnerable adults.

Applicants are unable to request a criminal record check on themselves as it requires an application form from us, who would request the check. An enhanced DBS check costs £44 and this would need to be paid for by yourself, when the check is being carried out.

There are several documents that you must provide for us to carry out your check. At least three original valid ID documents are required to prove identity for the DBS check. At least one document from the following list is required: a current valid passport, a biometric residence permit, a current photocard driving licence, a birth certificate issued within 12 months of your birth or an adoption certificate. Also required is at least one document confirming your current address and at least one document confirming your date of birth. All documents must show your full official current name or include proof of change of name.

You can apply online for a basic check for yourself, however if you want a standard or an enhanced DBS check, this must be carried out through an employer.

A DBS check can take as little as four weeks to be passed and returned however, this could be longer at certain times of the year when the service is busy. After the appropriate checks have been carried out, you will be working with us in no time!
