Ageing is a complex issue that we sometimes struggle to understand. Seeing your loved ones begin to age and not be as they once were can be difficult, but this process can be made easier with homecare. If you’re not sure if your loved one needs care, take a look at our 7 signs to find out if homecare may be the best thing for their health and wellbeing.

  1. Reduced Personal Hygiene

Your loved one may have trouble maintaining basic personal hygiene, and this is often one of the first things that you may notice. They may become uninterested about maintaining personal hygiene or it may have become difficult for them to wash and dress themselves.

  1. Frequent & Unexpected Falls

Frequent and unexpected falls are an obvious and a normal sign of old age. Environmental risks can be a major contributing factor and there is some possible prevention. The risk of falls does increase with age, and people who are aged 75 and over are four to five times more likely to need long-term care after a fall. Enlisting the help of a healthcare professional is an obvious way to reduce the risk of falls. Reducing falls is a team effort between the person, caregivers, and medical professionals.

  1. Mood Swings

Frequent mood swings and a sudden change in temperament can be a sign of cognitive issues. A loss of interest in things they previously enjoyed is also a sign that they may need a level of care or support.

  1. Out of date food

Wasted food in the fridge can be a sign that they are either forgetting to throw things away that they haven’t eaten or are forgetting to go shopping. This could lead to an unhealthy diet and they could end up becoming ill through eating spoiled food.

  1. Lack of home maintenance

If your loved one starts to lose interest in their home or stops taking pride in its appearance. This could either be through lack of desire or lack of strength to be able to carry out these tasks and can be a sign that they may need some help around the house.

  1. Confusion

As a person gets older, their mental state may start to deteriorate. A person who needs homecare could start to have no awareness of time, start to show confusion when carrying out simple tasks, start missing appointments and possibly becoming secretive. Again, these are all signs that homecare may be necessary.

  1. Forgetfulness

If your loved one is misplacing things and hence forth losing the ability to retrace steps or recall recently learned information, this is a common sign that they may need homecare.

If your loved one is showing signs of medical decline, you should of course first contact their doctor. However, if you are interested in enquiring about homecare services from us a Kare Plus Redbridge, please call us on 0207 1480656 or use our contact form.
