Starting a new job doesn’t have to be daunting. Below we outline some of our top tips on how to embrace and love your first day on the job.

  1. Be prepared

Feeling on top of things should always be at the top of your list to ensure that your first day is as stress free as possible. Make sure you’ve done your homework and understand your responsibilities, along with having everything you need to ensure your first day goes off without a hitch!

It’s also a good idea to pack your bag the night before and don’t forget to take spare pens and some snacks.

  1. Go to bed early the night before

Who doesn’t love a good night’s sleep? Getting your full eight hours sleep the night before you start your new job can make sure you set off on the right foot! It might sound difficult because nerves can get the better of you, see below for info on how to relax.

  1. Try to relax

Relaxing the night before your new job can help you feel a lot better, why not grab a good book, spend time with family or watch something you love on the TV, all whilst trying not to think about your impending first day too much! Of course, you should be prepared but try to do that prior to the night before, this will also help you feel relaxed and in control.

It’s important to ensure you’re relaxed on the morning of your first shift, this will guarantee you are ready to take on the day, increase your productivity and heighten your ability to take in important information.

  1. Don’t be late

Tardiness is not going to impress your boss on your first day! Aim to arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of your shift to make sure you are definitely going to be there on time. Why not try a trial run at the same time the day before you your first shift?  This will help you to see how long it’s going to take to travel.

  1. Don’t be shy

Be bold and introduce yourself to everyone that you can. Making sure the people around you know that you are friendly and approachable on the first day will make a great first impression.

  1. Enjoy yourself!

Your first day of a new job is always going to be nerve wracking, but try your best to enjoy it. Caring with a smile on your face will improve the moods of the people you are caring for and make them feel appreciated. Make the most out of your new working environment and your confidence will shine.
