With the New Year underway, now is the perfect time for a career change. Healthcare is a great industry to work in with multiple opportunities available regardless of a person’s experience, location or their age. One member of the Kare Plus network that perfectly embodies this is Barbara Needham, a 72-year-old Community Care Worker in the Cheshire area.

After retiring at the age of 65, Barbara wanted to make a big difference in the local community. She contacted Kare Plus Cheshire about care roles, and shortly after, Barbara was invited for an interview.

After I retired, I found myself wanting to return to work and find a role that involved making a difference in my local community.”

I met with the owner of Kare Plus Cheshire, Jamie Hickson who was very friendly and approachable. The interview and compliance process, although very thorough, was quick, so I was ready to start work not long after my initial interview,” said Barbara.

Working as a Community Care Worker, Barbara enjoys a varied day-to-day work cycle that involves supporting those in need across her local area. It’s quite the contrast to her previous position as an Administration Assistant, working in the finance sector.

My day-to-day consists of anything from making meals, to taking customers out for the day. I really enjoy supporting people, and I love that customers can live freely and without as many restraints because of my help,” stated Barbara.

It doesn’t matter if you’re at the start of your career, looking for something different during retirement or just want to try something completely new, Kare Plus has a multitude of positions suited to a number of different experience levels.

Barbara’s role as a Community Carer has brought new meaning to her in her retirement, something she wishes she had found sooner: “I wish I had known about the care industry earlier in my career, because I think I would have gotten a lot more out of a career in care.”
