The Healthcare industry is not one of the easiest places to work, there’s long hours, emotional commitment and high expectations. Regardless of the challenges, those that work in the industry are some of the most awesome people in the world, here’s 5 reasons why.

1. Patients come first

No matter what the situation is, patients always come first. No matter how tired or stressed a doctor, nurse or healthcare worker is, they will always go out of their way to ensure the safety, health and happiness of a patient. It’s the reason why most people choose a career within the healthcare industry. Many people often stay behind after their shift is finished to ensure their patient is okay.

2. Many workers endure injuries

Most people that work in healthcare often end up enduring some form of physical injury. The job often involves a lot of physical activity, over time this can lead to all sorts of issues. Regardless of this, there are many people who spend their entire career in healthcare, providing a consistent level of compassion and care. Then you’ve got to take into consideration the effects that 12 hour shifts can have on the body, causing all kinds of havoc on a person's sleeping pattern and digestive system.

3. Healthcare workers put themselves at risk

One of the biggest challenges in healthcare is dealing with the fact that you are putting yourself in harm's way. Challenging patients and stray needles are all in a day's work, meaning there’s always the potential that someone might become infected. When an illness epidemic breaks out in a country, most people tend to stay indoors, but those who work in healthcare are right on the frontline providing much needed medical care - showing that those in the industry and incredibly selfless in their conduct.

4. Many miss out on time with friends and family

Most of us get time off around Christmas and New Year, and we often get bank holidays off through the year as well. People working in healthcare are not granted that luxury, they must work through the Christmas period (which is often one of the busiest periods of the year) while everyone else enjoys their holiday. These dedicated individuals often miss out on Christmas morning, looking after someone who is likely having the worst Christmas of their life.

5. Training takes years

Healthcare training can take years to complete, and even when someone thinks they are finished, there’s a whole new set of technologies to learn. Those working in the healthcare industry are constantly playing catchup in order to stay up to date. Not only do they dedicate a huge amount of their time to working, they also use a lot of their spare time in order to stay up to date. It really is a 24/7 job.
