Kare Plus Ashford & Margate Achieves Living Wage Foundation Accreditation
For the past year we have been actively planning & implementing a structure for our businesses to be able to deliver a Real Living Wage to all our staff, both the carers on the frontline & our office staff working away behind the scenes.
It became a passion of mine as the Company Director to ensure our care teams were paid more than the standard minimum government wage. As a company we have always paid above the National Minimum Wage since 2016, but it became apparent in the last two years That this simply was not enough in my eye for what our Care & office-based staff deserve.
So, we got to work on our numbers back in December 2021 & with a lot of desire we decided to pay our staff near or even above the Real London Living Wage on an average pay throughout the week. This was never going to be an easy process, particularly where we are providers to the Local Authority & the NHS who set their own rates of pay somewhat to Social Care providers such as ourselves, and these rates are not as what we would ideally charge to allow us to be able to deliver the Real Living Wage, but at the end of the day I’m very proud and happy to say we have achieved this since April 2022 and we will deliver this minimum guarantee to all our staff year upon year.
For me it’s essential to always be conscious of the fact that we as Employers are ensuring our staff have real life pay rises every year that are not only competitive in the there and now, but are higher than the minimum increases proposed every year since the Minimum wages inception in 1998 & by committing to the Real Living Wage I feel this will make a real difference to our staffs work lives & their personal lives.
